‘ right side; and on gala-days, and at the Festival of the Order, the Collar of‘ the Order is also to be worn.
XII. ‘ The Commanders shall wear a Cross somewhat smaller, pendent‘ upon the breast, from a Ribband of the breadth of two inches and a half, saltire-‘ wise ; and the same Cross, without the crown, embroidered in silver on the‘ left side of the coat.
XIII. ‘ That the Knights shall wear their Cross pendent from the button-‘ hole by a Ribband of the breadth of two fingers.
XIV. ‘ That the Medal shall be worn attached to a Ribband of like breadth‘ from the button-hole, and a pension of two rix-dollars 1 per month, annexed‘ thereto; We reserving to Ourselves to make a further arrangement on the‘ latter point.
XV. 4 That the Order is destined for the Civil as well as the Military service;‘ but that, as far as concerns the Decorations, there shall be this difference in the‘ Star and Cross, viz. Military persons, who may have received the Order as a‘ reward for any particularly gallant or prudent action in the Field, shall have‘ with their Star and Cross a wreath of laurel, instead of one of oak, and beneath‘ the crown which surmounts the Cross, two swords.
‘ That, although We reserve to Ourselves the distribution of the Insignia of‘the Grand Crosses, Commanders, and Knights; yet We nevertheless direct‘ that there shall be held in future, on the Anniversary of the Foundation, a‘ Chapter of the Order, consisting of at least seven Members, under the presi-‘ dency of a Grand Cross, for the purpose of investigating the claims of Military‘ persons which, in pursuance of the regulations of the xvnth section, they are‘ allowed to exhibit.
XVI. ‘ That, in conferring the Order on Military persons, it is ordained—
‘ firstly, that the distinguished achievement, upon which the claim to the Order is‘ founded, shall be sufficiently described ; secondly, that the description shall be‘ fully proved; and, thirdly, that the Chapter of the Order shall impartially‘ examine whether the proofs be sufficient, and which of the Crosses the alleged‘ achievement may have merited. •
XVII. ‘ That it shall be permitted to every Officer, who may conceive that‘ by the performance of a particular achievement he has rendered himself worthy‘ of the Order, to adduce the requisite proof of the same, and for that purpose
