MISCELLANEOUS REMARKS.
[ON WEARING ORDERS.
to the Ribband;” 1 but if the Statutes of those, and of the other of the Queen’sOrders be hereafter revised, it might be desirable that they should contain astill more positive injunction for the Knights and Companions to wear theInsignia, so as to afford them an excuse for obeying the dictates of their ownjudgment and wishes.
The following observations apply to all British Orders:
The Collar is to be worn on what are termed “ Collar Days,” 2 and onsuch other occasions as the Sovereign may command. Whenever the Mantleof an Order is worn, the Collar is always worn with it; and it should also beworn by Peers with their Parliamentary Robes. At a Chapter of the Order ofthe Garter, held on the 22nd May 1622, it was ordained, “ that such KnightsCompanions as should afterwards assist at the funeral of any Knight Com-panion should wear the Collar apert [i. e. openly] at the said funeral.” 3
The Ribband is never worn at the same time as the Collar. In full Dressthe Ribband should be placed outside the Coat, but in Undress, it is wornunder the Coat and over the Waistcoat. The “ General Regulations” 4 for theArmy contain the following directions on the subject: “ Officers on all occa-sions on which the King is present, are, if in uniform, to appear in full dress.
