other Knights Grand Cross, Knights Commanders, and * Cavalieri’ (or Com-panions) of the said Most Distinguished Order, We are pleased to declareand command, that in all solemn Ceremonials and in all other places andassemblies whatsoever, the Knights Grand Cross of this Order shall havePlace and Precedency next to, and immediately after, the Knights GrandCross of Our Most Honourable Order of the Bath; and that the KnightsCommanders of this Order shall have Place and Precedency next to, andimmediately after, the Knights Commanders of the said Most HonourableOrder of the Bath.” 2

With respect to the Knights of the Third Class appointed before August1832, the Title, Rank, and Precedency which they enjoyed under the formerStatutes, namely, the Title of “ Sir,” and Precedency of all Knights Bachelors,at Malta, and in the Ionian Islands, were confirmed to them; but of thoseKnights only three now remain. All persons nominated since that time tothe Third Class are, if Ionians or Maltese, called “ Cavalieri,” and if nativesof Great Britain or Ireland, “ Companions;” and they have Precedency nextto, and immediately after, Companions of the Order of the Bath. 3

The Grand Master for the time being, is the First and Principal KnightGrand Cross; 4 and the Lord High Commissioner in the Ionian Islands, if aKnight of the First Class, has Precedency of all others except the GrandMaster. 2 The Chancellor, if a Knight Commander, has Precedency of all otherKnights Commanders. 5

The Precedency of the Officers of the Order will be noticed hereafter.
