INSTALLATION OF THE KNIGHTS OF THE MOST ILLUSTRIOUS ORDER OFSAINT PATRICK ON THE 28th OF AUGUST 1821.

“ Office of Arms, Dublin Castle, 28th August 1821.

“ This day being appointed, by command of His Majesty, for the Installation of the Knights-Electof the Most Illustrious Order of Saint Patrick, the streets were lined with Military from the Castle,down Cork Hill, Dame Street, Great George’s Street South, Aungier Street, Bishop Street, KevinStreet, and the New Passage to the Cathedral, through the late Archiepiscopal Palace Yard, and theGarden of the Deanery House. An Officer and thirty men of the 78th Foot, were stationed at thedifferent doors and avenues leading to the Cathedral. No carriages of any description were allowed topass in the line of the Procession, except those of the Knights of Saint Patrick, their Esquires, theOfficers of the Order, His Majesty’s Household, and such as had passports from Ulster King of Arms,until the Procession had returned to the Castle.

The Installed Knights, Esquires, and Officers, in the full Habits of the Order, the UninstalledKnights in their Under Habits and Surcoats only, attended by their Esquires, the Heralds andPursuivants in their appropriate Costume and Tabards, and the Serjeants at Arms with their Maces,assembled at the Castle at eleven o’clock in the forenoon, and (the weather being wet and stormy)proceeded in carriages to the Cathedral, in the following order:

Squadron of Cavalry.

State Trumpets and Drums.

Serjeant Trumpeter.

Messengers.

Pursuivants.

Serjeants at Arms, with Maces.

Athlone Pursuivant.

Earl of Roden, and his Esquires.

Earl of Courtown, and his Esquires.

Earl of Fingal, and his Esquires.

Earl of Meath, and his Esquires.

Earl of Ormond, and his Esquires.

His Excellency Earl Talbot, and his Esquires.

Earl of Caledon, and his Esquires.

Marquess of Donegal, and his Esquires.

Esquires of His Royal Highness the Duke of Cumberland.
