General Count Walmoden, of the Prussian Service, was promoted to be anHonorary Knight Grand Cross. His Imperial Highness and Count Walmodenwere Installed by Dispensation on the 29th of October. On the 16th of Sep-tember, Gilbert Eliott Murray Kynynmond, second Earl of Minto, EnvoyExtraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to the King of Prussia, was nomi-nated a Civil Knight Grand Cross. Sir Benjamin Hallowell Carew dying inSeptember, the Knight Commander Admiral Sir John Wells was appointed aKnight Grand Cross on the 6th of October in his vacancy. On the 17thof October, the same Dignity was conferred upon the Knight CommanderLieutenant-General Sir Robert Edward Henry Somerset (commonly calledLord Robert Edward Henry Somerset), and he was Invested, together withSir John Wells, on the 29th of October, on which day they were also Installedby Dispensation. On the 20th of December, Lieutenant-General Sir WilliamHenry Pringle, a Knight Commander, was nominated a Knight Grand Cross;and he and the Earl of Minto were Invested, and Installed by Dispensationon the same day. The Order lost seven Knights Grand Cross in 1834,namely, Field-Marshal the Duke of Gloucester, on the 2nd of November;Sir Edward Thornbrough and Sir Richard Goodwin Keats, in April; Sir JohnDoyle, in August; Sir Benjamin Hallowell Carew, in September; Sir HenryWarde, in October; and Sir William Keppel, in December.
Two Rear-Admirals and one Major-General (all of whom were Companions)were nominated Knights Commanders on the 16th of July, and 6th and17th of October 1834; and Investitures were held on the 21st of February,19th of March, 23rd of April, 16th of July, and 20th of December. In De-cember in that year, one Post-Captain was appointed a Companion.
On the 28th of March 1835, Lieutenant-General the Honourable SirEdward Stopford, a Knight Commander, was nominated a Knight GrandCross instead of Sir Henry Johnson, who died on the 18th of that month, butwhose decease was not to have made a vacancy; 1 and he was Invested, andInstalled by Dispensation on the 13th of May. On the 3rd of August, theKnight Commander Admiral Sir Amelius Beauclerk (commonly called LordAmelius Beauclerk, a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Guelphs), wasappointed a Knight Grand Cross; and he was Invested, and Installed by Dis-pensation on the 12th of August.
