“ Scotland Yard, 22nd December 1767.
“ My Lord, I am commanded to acquaint your Lordship that His Majesty intends to disposeof three of the Green Ribbands on Wednesday next, the 23rd instant, at one of the clock in the after-noon, at his Palace of Saint James’s, in the manner heretofore used, and dispenses at this time withthe form of an Election by Chapter, as by the Statute directed; and your Lordship is desired to attendHis Majesty at the time and place accordingly. I have the honor to be, with the greatest respect,

“ James the Seventh, by the Grace of God, King of Scotland, England, France, and Ireland,Defender of the Faith, &c. Sovereign of the Most Ancient and Most Noble of the Thistle To our righttrusty and well-beloved Sir Andrew Forrester, greeting. Whereas we have thought fit to revive andrestore the said Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle, to its ancient splendour andmagnificence, to the end it may remain a lasting mark and testimony of Our Royal favour to Ourancient Kingdom of Scotland. And whereas several Officers are needful for attending the service of thesame, especially a Secretary for giving an account of Our intentions and pleasure from time to time, tothe Knights Brethren of the said Order. We have, therefore, thought fit to nominate, constitute, andappoint, and by these presents we do nominate, constitute, and appoint you, the said Sir AndrewForrester, to be Our Secretary of that Most Ancient and Most Noble Order, giving, granting, and dis-poning unto you, the place and office of Our Secretary of the Order aforesaid, with full power andauthority to you, to receive all fees, profits, and perquisites, and to enjoy all privileges and immunitiesbelonging, or that hereafter shall be by us declared to pertain and belong to the same. And generallywith full power to do and perform all things pertaining to the place, office, and duty of Our Secretary,of that Order, and after you having taken your Oath de fideli administratione in the said Office, youare hereby authorized to carry the Badge, and to wear and use all habits, distinctions, and others,which to Our Secretary of the said Order do rightly belong, for all which this shall be your Warrant.Given under Our Royal hand and signet, at Our Court at Windsor, the 31st day of May 1687, and ofOur reign the third year.
