“ We do hereby order and require all who are or shall be admitted as Knights Brethren of theMost Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle, to pay the Fees according to the above distribu-tion, upon their being admitted to the said Order. Given under Our Royal Hand and Signet of the
said Order, at Our Court of St. James’s, the 29th day of October 1705, and of pur Reign the fourthyear.”
FORM OF THE OATH APPOINTED BY HIS SACRED MAJESTY THE SOVEREIGN OF THE MOST ANCIENTAND MOST NOBLE ORDER OF THE THISTLE, TO BE TAKEN BY ALL SUCH AS SHALL BE ADMITTEDINTO THE SAID ORDER AS KNIGHTS BRETHREN, AND WHICH WAS TAKEN BY ME JAMES EARL OFMORTON IN PRESENCE OF HIS MAJESTY, AT KENSINGTON, THIS TENTH DAY OF JULY 1738.
“ 1. I shall fortify and defend the true Reformed Protestant Religion and Christ’s most HolyEvangel to the utmost of my power.
“ 2. I shall be Loyal and true to my Sovereign Lord King George the Second, Sovereign of thesaid Most Noble Order.
“ 3. I shall maintain and defend the Statutes, Privileges, and Honours of the said Order.
“ 4. I shall never bear treason about in my heart against Our Sovereign Lord the King, but shalldiscover the same to him. So help me God.”
