PHILIP, Prince, afterwards KING OF SPAIN.Elected 24th April 1554. Invested on the 20thof July ; became JOINT SOVEREIGN OF THEORDER on the 25th of July, and was Installedon the 3rd of August 1554. He ceased to beJoint Sovereign of the Order on the deathof his Consort, Queen Mary, 17th November 1558,but continued a Knight Companion until his death,13th September 1598. (Vide p. 189.)
