Albert Duke of Holland. (Vide p. 56, antea.) —The name of Albert Duke of Holland doesnot occur in the Windsor Tables; but that he was Elected a Companion is further proved by a Letterfrom King Henry the Sixth, written in July 1428, in which, after alluding to the ancient alliancebetween England and Holland, and especially since the Houses of Hainault and England had beenunited by blood, Henry proceeds, “ Et qe les feux de bone memoire le Conte Albert, et Due Guillemde Bavier, successivement en leur terns Contes de Haynau, Holland, et Zealand, se sont devenuz Com-paignons de nostre college de Chivalerie de I’Ordre de Gartier, en signe d’amitee et amour perpetuel.”—Proceedings of the Privy Council, vol. III. p. 307: and Fcedera, vol. X. p. 403, Rot. Franc. 6thHen. V. Moreover, Henry the Sixth, in a Letter dated 14th December 1435, to the Towns of Holland,Zealand, and Frize, alluding to the ancient alliance between the King of England and the Princes ofZealand, said, they “ had continued in that straight friendship, as to accept and wear the honourableOrder of the Garter.”—Vide Anstis, I. 6.

The succession of the Knights, elected in the reign of Henry the Fourth, according to the WindsorTables, is as follows; and it would have been inserted in p. 57, if there had been room :
