On this Solemnity, and the Honour they deriv’d from ir*fome have thought fit to tranfmit the Memory to Pofterity,by Medals, with Infcriptions relating thereto ; fuch werethofe of Gold and Silver, which Frederick^ Duke of iP Vir-temberg, caufed to be made ; as alfo thole made by Charier,King of Sweden.

The magnificent Solemnity of Inveftiture, (fc;being compleatly finifh’d, and the Ambafladors havingfully performed their Duties therein ; they are yet fur-ther to obtain from the new invefted Stranger, before theirdeparture, a publick Inftrument, teftifying the receptionof the faid Habit and Enfigns, Sign’d with his Hand, andSealed with his Great Seal ; this we find anciently donein feveral Inftances, and is generally demanded and ob-tain’d.
Hereupon a Claufe to this Effedi is ufually added, inMrudtions given to Ambafladors; as appears from thofeto the Lord Howard and Garter, in the Embafly tofames V. King of Scotland ; namely, that Garter Jhotildremember (after the Inveftiture was performed,) to Purchafeiend Sollicit a Certificate from the faid King, of his re-ception of the Order, and taking the Oath, both under hisSeal.
The Form and Subftance of thefe Certificates are muchalike; for after a recital of all the Powers given to theAmbafladors nam’d in the Commiflion of Legation, theStranger Prince firft makes Certificate of his receiving,and Inveftiture with the Mantle, Surcoat, Collar, andOther Ornaments Of the Order ; and that they receiv’dthem from the Sovereign’s Ambaffador, with the accu-ftotii’d Solemnities.
