But tocleat all Doubts which may arife upon this Point, it wasat a Chapter held at bVhite-Hall, the fourth of FebruaryXI Car, II. ordained, Xbat not any of the Achievementstf an ele£t Knight’s Stall be fet up in the Chappel at Wind-for, before he be infialled, and the Fees of Infiadationtaid.

And though this was the Pra&ice anciently, yet werethe Atchievements always prepared and brought to Wind-for, and fet before the eledf Knight’s Stall; and'in cafe ofhis not coming to receive Inftallation, then, being nootherwife placed, they might be the eafier removed with-out the Choir, in as decent manner as could be, fo thatthe Honour of Knighthood'might be preferved entire; ne-verthelefs, to be retained for publick Ufe, and the Be-nefit of the College.

Where mention is made in the Annals of any Perfonemployed to fet up the Atchievements of a Knight, it isto be underftood that he was his Prodfor, and inftalledon his behalf: And there appears but one fingle Inftancewhere one Perfon hath hung up a Knight’s Atchievements,when another was inftalled for him; and this happen'd14th of Auguft, Anno 2,9 Hew. VI. where the Lord Rivershaving been elected to the Stall of the Lord Hungerford,his Sword and Helm were foon after (fent) hung upby William Bob den, his E(q; and Guyen Herald, and heinftalled the 30 OBober following, by Sir William Crafford his Proiftor but this was contrary to the Law ofthe Order.

Where the fetting up of a Knight’s Atchievements isbarely mentioned, without taking notice of the Inftallation,it is to be underftood, that fuch Knight’s Inftallation wasalfo folemniz’d at that Time : As in the cafe of the Kingof Portugal, of whom the Annals only note, that he hadtaken care to fet over his Stall, Helm, Sword, and Ban-ner, and all things belonging thereto, at the Feaft atWindfor, % Henry VI. In what manner thefe Atchieve-ments are fixed, appears by the Sratutes ; the Helm andCreft to be fet over each Knight-Companion’s Stall, andthe Sword to hang diredfly under them ; but the Plate{ o be nailed to the back of the Knight’s Stall.
