Letters of Summons under his privy Signet, both to the WCommiffioners for Inftallation, and eled Knights, under ‘{Athe Signet of the Order ; thofe to the Commiffioners are $direded feverally to each, nominated in the Commiffion;who are to give them notice of the Inftalment, and to re-quire their repair to Wind for, agaicftthe Day afligned ^that they may proceed to their Inftallation. Thofe di’reded to the eled Knights, pafs likewife under the So-vereign’s Sign Manual, and Signet of the Order ; and if j.to® 1there be two or more Knights appointed to be Inftalled jjfe'on the fame Day, the like Letter is fent to each of them, j t be Sthe difference being only in the Diredion. ^e.

Befides thefe Letters fent from the Sovereign, the #0fChancellor (if the Sovereign be abfent,) in his circular 0 tLetter to the Knights-Companions, gives them anindma- 0 mtion of the defigned Inftallation, upon the Feaft of St,George. And if the Feaft be held either by the Sovereignor his Lieutenant, he difpatcheth a Letter to the Prelate jjjsiof the Order, intimating the Sovereign’s Commands for $$$his attendance at the Day appointed ; and if it be peeformed by Commiffioners, he iffues his Letters to the ,"n irtr; (three inferior Officers of the Order, purporting the fameCommand ; the conveyance of which appertains to the 5Garter, and are left to his Care, and Truft, by the Con-ftitutions relating ro the Order, whofe allowances and ^ ,j frewards upon thefe and fuch like Services, in their due nB j tJPlace, Avail be ccnfidered. :{M p DI

§ 5. The third matter to be obtained by the Chancellorof the Order, is the Sovereign's Warrant, direded for theMafter of the Great Wardrobe, for the Time being, todeliver fo much Velvet for the Livery of the Order, aswill make the Knight eled a Surcoat and Hood, and asmuch Sarcenet or Taifety as will ferve to line them : Offuch a Warrant there is an ancient Precedent in Latin,entered in the Black Book of the Order ; where it runs,Nos idea volumus & precipimus, ut bine Tabellioni virginQclodecem fubrubri ojlri da more trades, cum tanto albofetict,quanto vejlimentum inde conficiendum infulciri potent , frotiverata (quam vsocant) fua, &c. There is likewife inferredanother Precedent in Englifh of the like Nature, foruhedelivery of thefe Materials to Sir John Wallop Kt. elected
