For which reafon,when certain Articles, tending to the Honour of the Or-der, had been prepared by the Sovereign’s Lieutenant andten Knights-Companions, in a Chapter held the 14th ofAfril, Anno 21 Jacobus I. ratified by the Sovereign,and ordered ro be obferved ; one of them was for acce-lerating the Inftallation, afcer the Knight had been ele-cted, yet qualified with this Exception : ZJnlcft for fome[pedal Caufi the Sovereign fhoud thinks fit to defer tie fameuntil the Eve or Day of St. George next following, the Timeof Election.

1 ) 1. The Feaft of Inftallation hath not been hithertoailigncd to any certain Period of Time, but has alwaysdepended upon the Will and Pleafure of the Sovereign, toaffix a convenient Day, which hath been granted uponthe requeft of the Knights eledt, or fome other of theKnights-Companions, whofe Favour and Efteem withthe Sovereign was beft able to prevail ; fuch a one do wefind Anno 35 Elizabeth ; who, on the behalf of the Earlsof Sbevetbury and Cumberland, obtained the 19th of Junethe faid Year, to be appointed for the Inftallation. Itfometimes happens, that though the Day of Inftallation beprefixed, yet fomething extraordinary intervening, it hathbeen prorogued to a farther and more convenient Seafonfor the Sovereign’s Affairs. And the mod remarkable In-fbnee is fet down, Anno 3 and 4 Philip and Mary, whenthe Earl of Suffex, the Lord Grey, and Sir Robert Rochefier,Knights eled, had their Inftallation, together with thefeaft of St. George, prorogued to the 1 oth of May in theYear aforefaid.
