(one of the Gentlemen-Ufliers of the Privy-Chamber) was deputed by the Sovereign to the Chan-cellor-fhip during his Abfence, having the Purfe withthe Seals deliver’d to him the 4th of May, 14 Car. I. be-ing fworn by the Regifter of the Order durante deputationea- heneplacito Regis, which Claufe was likewife annex’din the Deputy Chancellor’s Oath, 1 2 Car. II. Upon SirThomas Rome’s return, and indifpofition, 16 Car. I. SirJames was again deputed Chancellor, and a third time,18 Car. I. continu’d Deputy Chancellor unto the Death ofSir Thomas Rome, of which the Sovereign being inform’dat Oxford, 1 <744. referved the difpofal of this Office ’tillSir^aazes’s return to CQurt, and then commanded himto wear the Badge and Ribband about his Neck, ’till aChapter of the Order compleated his admittance.
