Their Enfign is a White Patriarchal Croftwith Twelve Points, fowed to their Bread, and on theleft fide of their Black Mantle. •
In this Hofpital, Care is taken for the nurfing andbringing up expofed Children, curing Infirmities, En-tertainment of Strangers for Three Days, relieving thePoor, and the like Works. Their Revenue is about24000 Ducats per Day, having great Commandaries inItaly, Sicily, Spain, France, Burgundy, Germany, and elfe-where.

D. 1200.Albert, then Biffiop of Livonia, inftituted this Order inImitation of the Knights Teutonic's, with defign to ex-tirpate Idolatry, and promote the Gofpel. He prefcrib-ed to thefe Knights the Ciftercian Rule and Habit, viz. along White Mantle and Black Hood j on the Breaft wasthe Figure of a Red Sword, or rather T wo plac'd tn Saltire,whence they had the Title of Enfferfratres, or BrethrenSword-hearers.
