THE Town-Hall of Delft is one of the numerous specimensof sumptuous public edifices, which decorate the cities ofHolland and Belgium. It stands at one extremity of a verylarge market-place, and fronts the lofty tower of the newchurch which stands at the opposite extremity. The differentstories of the building, from the basement upwards, are adornedrespectively with pilasters of the Doric, Ionic and Corinthianorders ; and although the whole structure is overloaded withornament, the general effect is v* ry rich and imposing.

It bears the following appropriate inscription over the en-trance gate :

Hie locus odit, amat, punit, conservât, honorât,Nequitiam, pacem, crimina, jura, probos.
