ANTWERP CATHEDRAL.

THIS cathedral is one of the most interesting in Europe, andcertaiuly far surpasses any other ecclesiastical edifice in theNetherlands. Its construction was begun in the early part ofthe fifteenth century, and it occupied about a hundred yearsin building. Only one of the towers has been completed, butit is of almost unrivalled elegance, and is nearly four hundredand seventy feet in height. From the gallery near its summitthe view is amazingly extensive : on the one hand we seeGhent, Mechlin, Louvain, etc., and on the other the islandsof Zeeland. Amongst the numerous objects which attract no-tice in this splendid cathedral, are some of the finest paintingsof Rubens : these gems of art having been brought back fromParis and restored to their original and appropriate situations.
