VIEW FROM ANDERNACH.

THIS view of the Rhine is taken just outside the wallsof the town, and shews the river as it enters the mountainoustract of country between Andernach and Bonn. At the footof the wooded hill, on the left, is a large round tower, sur-mounted by a crane, from which the well known mill-stonesof Andernach are embarked for Holland, from whence theyare shipped for various parts of Europe. The distant rangesof heights, on the same side, are seen extending as far asNamedy.

On the right, the margin of the river is ornamented bythe villages of Leidesdorf and Heilig-Kreuz : these are backedby a range of rocky and picturesquely varied hills. The re-markable rounded hill of Hammerstein closes the distance,but the small crumbling remains of the fortress, crowning itssummit, are not visible from this point.
