FRANKFORT, ON THE MAINE.

fesl

IN the annexed view of Frankfort, which is taken fromthe suburb of Saxenhausen, on the left bank of the Maine,we have a curious and interesting assemblage of picturesqueobjects. A fine old stone bridge is seen on the right, connectingthe suburb with the city, and the quays, on the opposite bankof the river, are rendered striking by a long range of fantasticallybuilt houses. The old cathedral with its crumbling towerrises conspicuously in the back ground. All these, with thebustle of boats navigating the river, combine to form a livelyand pleasing scene. The environs of Frankfort are extremelycheerful, the neat looking country houses of the merchantsand citizens being scattered over the whole neighbourhoodto a considerable distance.
